Official First Day of Teaching ( with my not so official shcedule)

Woke up before the sun did this morning, took a shower, used my NEW hairdryer ( which doesnt work as well as the american hairdryers), noted that the water here makes my hair do funny things and that i want to get it all cut off, got to the bus stop before the sun did, watched 14 year olds smoke cigarettes, clandestinely got onto the school bus, rode to school, watched the beautiful sunrise over the meditteranean, mentally noted it was worthwhile getting up so early, got to the highschool, couldnt decide if I was laughing out of embarrassment or because it really was just that funny that we rode the school bus and the bus driver didnt seem to even notice we werent high schoolers, went to the nice secretary lady at school, turned in alot of paperwork, think I'm mostly done with turning in paperwork, Now i wait to be put into the system. I went next door to the middle school, ( first have to get the key to the gate from the nice lady who sits up front at school), realized I was given the WRONG schedule and was in fact 40 mintes late to my first class ( instead of 20 minutes early like I had planned), apologized profusely to the teacher, but she didn't seem to mind. Took my half of the students and began my day with 15 twelve year olds who spoke practically NO english because they had just begun learning English this year. Taught two more classes like that, had a fire drill on my first day, fell in love with the little middle schoolers who came in in a group at the end to say " YOUR FRENCH IZ VERY GOOOOD" and then giggled and ran off. Went back to the high school to catch a ride home with that lady who tried to make us take the crappy apartment, came home, ate lunch cause i was FAMISHED!, took a good three hour nap, woke up, chatted with the folks and the fiance on skype, left the apartment to find the "Office de Tourisme", got there, it was closed, bought a caramel crepe instead =), went to the supermarket, bought some "school supplies" like a binder and dividers for each of my classes. ( cause i have 12). Came home and did what i do best= organized, fixed a crazy french dish called "Taboule" which tastes sorta like cold couscous. Came BACK upstairs to finish my blog, and now I am about to get into bed and read Twilight in French!

So goodnight to all , i love you, and I appreciate all the comments and support- keep them coming =) i look forward to getting on and seeing what you all have to say- cough cough ERIN!!! who has yet to make a comment.. BTW- did Aunt Rhonda ever find my blog? havent heard from her.

  1. We all love your blogs, we are copying them and sharing them with close friends. Beverly, the church secretary, has been to France, so she loves your pictures, but has never spoken any French, so she is always amazed at what you have accomplished since you have been there. We have also had several people comment on the article in the newspaper, which makes us proud!!
BYW, Rhonda commented on a post, about a week ago. She said something about buying a Mac, but I did not understand why, but it is not my business. They are definitely keeping up with you. Rhonda called me the first few days on her way into work and I would read her your blogs, but she had not figured out how to post a comment. Evidently she has learned, she is so computer savvy, I'm sure it just took slowing down and focusing on one thing instead multi-tasking as I think she normally does.

Anyway, it is fun to read the comments, and on facebook as well. You seem to have a great group of friends as your support group.
Love you lots, sweetie, :) :)--MOM

  3. Becca! I've been reading every post you make, and I must say it's difficult to read and not wish I were over there with you! I so wish we could have conquered France together like we did London, and the rest of Europe! :) Keep writing, because I want to hear every detail. Love you!

  4. Becca,
Hello! I am our here! I kept using “@” instead of “.” in the web address. (I must have written it down incorrectly). Once I got that figured out, I was good.
XXOOXXX OO for you! You are in our daily thoughts and your Blogs have become my lunch time reading treat! It’s fun to catch up on what you have been doing and all the challenges you are overcoming. It sounds like you are having a great time. Wish we were there too.
My Mom & Dad visited with Gigi and Papa the other day and Gigi read your blogs to Mom. They enjoyed hearing about you travels. I also shared the address with Aunt Nancy. Maybe you will get a few posts there.
I always wondered if the European hairdryers would work better than my American hairdryer run thru the adapter…. Apparently not! Bet the flat iron doesn’t get very hot either….
Your school children sound adorable. Sounds like you will be seeing several students with 12 classes.
Back to work for me…. It’s getting late for you, hopefully you will catch the post before you sleep.
    Lots of love, Aunt Rhonda

  5. Hey Munchkin' -
Glad to see you are staying busy. I would hate for you to be over there on the French Mediterranean and have a bunch of free time on your hands.
Heading home tomorrow so maybe I can catch up with you over the weekend. Love you and take care of yourself! Oh, can you take a picture of yourself getting on the bus one morning and post it on FB? I may pee myself when I see it. I am laighing right now from the visual images, in fact! Love you... AA
