Ghetto Sweet Tea (aka sweet tea made in my tiny french kitchen)

So one of the things I miss about the US. (well, really the south) is Sweet Tea

so, I decided, how really hard can it be ya know? to make sweet tea?? All you need is tea bags, sugar and water, right? And France has ALL of those, sooooo NOT.A.PROBLEM. Well,.... here's how it went:

Let me preface all this by saying, YES, i make sweet tea at home in the US, except I buy those "Cold Brew" packs,.. so all i have to do is soak 2 tea bags in cold water, add sugar, and voila! Instant sweet tea. France doesnt do anything instantaneously, though, so of course those don't exist here.

Step one: Boil Water in a pot. No Problem. Check.

Step Two: Add four-five tea small bags. Check..

Step Three: Allow to steep for .. forever. Check.

Step Four: Add LOTS of sugar. Check.

(about this time I'm feeling fairly confident in myself)

Step Five : Allow to cool. Check.

Step Six: Pour into ice-tea pitcher........ NOT check. Crap, I didn't think of WHERE i would put the ice tea once it was done. Pitchers are hard to come by here anyways. Especially the kind I'm used to.

Step Seven: Empty out an oversized water bottle (almost 2 Liters) to use as make-shift pitcher. Check

Step Eight: Pour tea into water bottle... through the hole the size of a nickle. WITHOUT a funnel. hmmmmmm

Step Nine: Run to the store to get a funnel. Found a set of three for 1.97. Check.

Step Ten: Come home and pour now cold tea ( cause its been sitting out in our kitchen.. and ourhouse is relatively cold) into empty water bottle via my new 1.97 funnel. Check.

Step Eleven: Add more water. Check

Step Twelve: Shake bottle thoroughly (cause a spoon obviously would not fit) Check.

Step Thirteen: ENJOY! Check. .... and check and check again. I drank the whole bottle in one hour!!! LOL.. ALL THAT WORK and now I have to do it allover again because I drank the whole bottle in one sitting. OH well. Yay for bringing a little bit of the south to France!

  1. Proud of your resourcefulness. sounds like Sweet tea was a success. Was it as good as mom's? Do they have Splenda in France so you can make me some. If not, we'll put it in the care package we are sending you. Oh... by the by... as a former science person... a rolled up... funnel shaped... piece of paper... clear of course... or waxed paper works. Love ya and can't wait to get there. Dad

  3. I still make sweet tea at the house the way you showed me and it is always a favorite. I know this because whenever I want some it is gone! Plus, Jillian, Leita, and Heather always ask for it when they are at the crib. Love you lots!
